Nuforce Reference 9 V2 SE Monoblocks Review on 10 Audio

Monday, March 30, 2009

10 Audio has reviewed the Nuforce Reference 9 V2 SE monoblock power amps ($5,000/pair). These are compact units (photo).

Reviewer Jerry S. compared them to his Marantz Reference MA-9S2 300W monoblocks ($15,000/pair). His conclusion?

The Nuforces start and stop a note instantaneously, and can go from dead silent to quite loud without any delay. However, the easy feeling offered by the big Marantz amps of unlimited dynamic ability is largely missing and big orchestral crescendos are muted.

This is the most ridiculous, misleading & ‘off the mark’ review I’ve read in a long time. Certainly, his comments bear no relation to what my ears tell me or what any other formal reviews have siad about this product.

I wonder if the amps were broken in. Also, was there any effort to optimize the amp to your review system. In my experience, this amp is disastrous when set up with analytical, lean or bright upstream equipment, vibration control and cablings. Initially, my set up was geared to wring out the upmost level of details from previous amps/set ups. Turned out this isn’t what the Nuforce required as it has loads of details of its own. I turned my system around with some effort and never looked back. Now, I am enjoying music more than ever before with any other prior set up.
