TNT-Audio has reviewed the new Scythe SDA-1000 Kama Bay Class D integrated amp ($54). This is a small sized amp (photo) that uses the Yamaha YDA 138 Class D chipset and produces about 7-8 watts of usable power into 8 ohms. Burmester, a German maker of super high-end gear, sent us a review copy of their most recent various artists demo disc, Burmester Vorfuhrungs CD III ($30). This CD includes 10 tracks taken from a variety of original CDs. Audiophilia has reviewed the ESS Technology 32 bit Sabre DAC chip. This unit is the “ES 9018, 8 channel, 4 DACs/channel, with upsampling to 864 khz.” It is quite new, currently appearing in only one production DAC.
